Building a Strong Leadership Team

Philanthropy information from Gillian Holzhauzer-Graber, fundraising vice president: An Attitude of  Gratitude is a focused statewide project to raise money to  benefit AAUW Funds. The goal is to raise $2 per member from Oct. 1, 2012, through March 31, 3013.

Contributions can be made by individuals, branches, AAUW Ohio or any business.  As AAUW is a 501(c)(3), gifts are tax-deductible. Gifts can be made online, by check, stock or donor advised fund. Gifts should be made payable to AAUW Funds with a reference to fund #4178 in the memo line or any accompanying document.

Becoming Powerful Advocates Through Programming

Tips from Christine Siebeneck, AAUW Ohio program vice president:

• Create branch programming that aligns with the AAUW Mission: “AAUW advances equity for women and girls through

  advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research.” If it doesn’t further the mission, don’t include it.

• Talk about programming all year — with everyone, including community members
• Network with community groups. Partner with them to bring in speakers.
• Feel confident about dealing with public policy
• Use AAUW Programs in a Box. This is a good way to get younger people involved, as all the resources needed to put together a program are available for download online.
