Event Details and Costs:

  • Saturday, April 6, Equity Day: $60. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.; program, including keynote speakers and breakout sessions, begins at 9:30 a.m. and ends at 3:50 p.m. Social hour at 6 p.m. Optional Awards Banquet at 7 p.m. President’s Reception at 9 p.m.
  • Optional Awards Banquet on Saturday, April 6, 7-8:30 p.m.: $35. Includes full plated dinner and gratuity. Menu choices include Lemon Rosemary Chicken Breast, Herb-roasted Pork Loin and Chef’s Choice Vegetarian. You may select your menu choice on the Registration Form.
  • Sunday, April 6, Convention: $60. Registration and credentialing, 8-11:30 a.m. Breakout sessions, 9-10:50 a.m. and 12:15-1 p.m. Lunch at 11 a.m. Annual business meeting at 1 p.m.
  • Silent Auction: 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. April 6. Ends at 9:45 a.m. April 7.

Registration and payment: Two methods of registration and payment are available:

  1. By mail: Download the Equity Day & Convention 2013 Registration Form, and mail the completed form with your check made payable to AAUW Ohio to: Susan Marie Bigaila, 217 Johnson Hall, Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio 43403.
  2. Online: Pay online by choosing the appropriate options on our PayPal page. In this case, you may email your completed Registration Form to sbigail@bgsu.edu.

Registration deadline: Registration and payment are due by March 23. Registrations sent after that date incur an additional $10 charge.

Convention Presentation Highlights

Holly Kearl

AAUW activist Holly Kearl, author of "Stop Street Harassment," will be a keynote speaker at AAUW Ohio Equity Day & Convention 2013.

AAUW activist Holly Kearl, author of “Stop Street Harassment,” will be a keynote speaker at AAUW Ohio Equity Day & Convention 2013.

She is an activist, writer, and nonprofit professional based in the Washington, DC-area. Her work focuses on gender-based violence and gender equality. She is the author of Stop Street Harassment: Making Public Places Safe and Welcoming for Women (2010). She also coauthored a national AAUW report on sexual harassment in grades seven through 12, Crossing the Line: Sexual Harassment at School (2011). Since 2007 she’s worked for AAUW.

Michelle Hannan, MSW, LISW-S

She is the Director of Professional and Community Services for The Salvation Army Central Ohio. Hannan has lectured extensively on human trafficking. She is a member of The Salvation Army’s National Anti-Trafficking Council and the Ohio Attorney General Human Trafficking Study Commission.

She has an Ohio homestead located near Columbus that provides tours of an earthship and straw bale structures. She and her husband also feature workshops on straw bale building and llama trekking. Warmke’s passion extends to young women and the need to create sustainable mentoring programs by women, for women.

Other presenters include:

  • Dr. Barbara Hansen, Muskingum University. Hansen is a Dave Longaberger Prof of Teaching & Learning & Dist Prof Ed – Prof Education and Director of Graduate Studies in Education. Her keynote presentation: “Appalachia from an Assets Perspective.”
  • Jen Sader, AAUW member and Assistant Professor, Business and Leadership at Lourdes University, will present on women achievement in male-dominated careers.
  • Marisa Allison, acting Research Director of New Faculty Majority Foundation: The National Coalition for Adjunct and Contingent Equity, which educates the public about the impact of the contingent faculty crisis on educational quality and the public good.
  • Tosha Hammons, Case Manager at The Center for New Beginnings, will illustrate the need for establishing community partnerships between first responders, victims and community resources.
  • Savilla Irene Banister, PH.D and AAUW member,will share BGSU’s new Tech Trek program.
  • Barbara Brothers, Voter Guide Editor and Coordinator of Voter Services for the League of Women Voters of Greater Youngstown
  • Isabel Seavey, AAUW member, will facilitate the all-convention film study: Miss Representation.

Film discussion of Miss Representation

We will also be introducing a film discussion this year of Miss Representation, starring Cory Booker and Margaret Cho. The discussion will be led by Isabel Seavey. Miss Representation exposes how mainstream media contribute to the under-representation of women in positions of power and influence in America.

    The AAUW Ohio Convention starts with an all-convention book read on “Tripping the Prom Queen” by Susan Barash-Shapiro on Friday, April 5 at 8:00 pm.

    The 18th annual Equity Day starts Saturday, April 6 with a welcome by our state president at 9:30 am. Convention registration begins at 8:30 am. Speakers and programs will last throughout the day, concluding with an optional awards dinner at 7:00 pm.

    The 89th annual Convention and Meeting will be held on Sunday, April 7th. An optional worship service starts the morning at 8:15 am. Programs and speakers start at 9:00 am. The business meeting begins at 1:00 pm. Registration and credentialing begins at 8:00 am.
