Support AAUW’s Tech Trek at BGSU
I am writing this letter on behalf of Tech Trek, a science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) camp designed for Northwest Ohio 8th grade girls. The camp is currently headed by me, Beth Pinheiro, and is backed by the National AAUW organization as well as Bowling Green State University. Our objective is to provide girls entering the 8th grade with an opportunity to participate in a free, weeklong camp that offers them the chance to dive into the STEM fields.
Tech Trek will be held at the Bowling Green State University campus, during the week of July 13- 20, 2013. At that time, 80 area girls will participate in several experiments taught by professionals in the STEM fields and interact with state of the art technology. Tech Trek was created in 1998 by the AAUW branch in Palo Alto, California. In the past 14 years it has expanded to eight additional college campuses, serving over 9000 girls. I am extremely excited to announce its expansion to Northwest Ohio.
This camp in particular, helps to enhance the efforts of AAUW and its mission to empower women and girls. Tech Trek is a critical program well positioned to prepare and empower the next generation of girls interested in science and technology.
For this camp to be successful, I will require your monetary help. I have been charged with the task of raising $50,000 of the over $100,000 necessary for this life enhancing opportunity. Your monetary support will be utilized to provide scholarships to 80 Northwest Ohio young women. Funds will be used to support individuals, workshops, field trips, room and board, and other activities.
Any amount you can give is welcomed. Below you can find a schedule of giving. In return for your generosity, your name will be included in either posters, banners, or brochures depending on your level of support.
Thank you for considering this request. If you would like to know more about this program, please contact me at 419-372-7824 or firstname.lastname@example.org. More information is also available at http://aauw-techtrek.org/.
