Handmade quilt raffle will raise AAUW Funds

2011 February 15

Heights-Hillcrest-Lyndhurst Branch member and fiber artist extraordinaire Jakki Dukes has completed a beautiful handstitched, quilted wall hanging that she is donating to the branch to be raffled for AAUW Funds.

Its title is “Women on the Move.” It is an original design created to celebrate the 130th year of AAUW. The fabrics were selected to reflect women in our traditional roles, plus it includes images and motifs as we have made progress into the 21st century. The fabrics are cotton, and the quilting is hand stitched.

Jakki says, “It is my way of saying thank you and congratulations to AAUW.” The wall hanging is about 46 1/2 inches long and 40 inches wide.

Raffle tickets will sell for $5 each or 6 for $25. The drawing for the winner won’t take place until later in the year, according to Marilyn Kornowski, HHL AAUW Funds chair, who will be handling the details.
