July 1 conference call will help get out educated votes

2010 June 17

Dear AAUW Leader:

Election Day 2010, Tuesday, Nov. 2, is fast approaching. AAUW branches have a long and rich history of reaching out during election season and educating their communities to make a difference for women and girls.

I invite you to participate in a nationwide conference call to kick-off AAUW’s 2010 voter education and turnout campaign. The call will be on Thursday, July 1, at 7 p.m. EDT. (Adjust for your time zone.)

I’ll be joined on this conference call by a colleague with Women’s Campaign Forum who will speak about their She Should Run™ program, which AAUW is collaborating on through our Elect Her initiative. She Should Run™ provides an easy way to ask a woman to run for office — and then connects her with the support, training and resources she needs to join the next class of strong and successful women leaders in our country.

While it is a little late to consider running for office in the upcoming 2010 election, the campaign season puts running for public office on people’s minds, and now is a good time for prospective candidates to consider running for all elected offices, from school board to Congress in future years.

On this call, we’ll cover the following topics:

  • She Should Run program and AAUW’s Elect Her initiative
  • Why turning out the women’s vote depends on registering millennial women
  • How to make issues affecting women and girls issues in the election
  • Strengthening the impact of your branch’s tradition of voter services
  • The implications of AAUW’s restructuring for your branch’s voter education programming (Hint: it mostly doesn’t.)

To register for this conference call, click here or go to the following site: http://bit.ly/9CtWJT.

I look forward to having you join me on Thursday, July 1.

Sincerely,

Lecia
