Artist and social activist speaks April 28 in Beachwood
Artist, teacher and social activist
Sister Diane T. Pinchot will be the guest speaker for the Heights-Hillcrest-Lyndhurst Branch meeting at 6:45 p.m. April 28, at the Beachwood Library, 25501 Shaker Boulevard.
Pinchot is a longtime art professor at Ursuline College in Pepper Pike.
In 1992 the Diocesan Cleveland Mission Team in El Salvador asked her to help design and build an altar on the spot where churchwomen were found in a shallow grave.
This action slowly changed Pinchot’s life. The experience inspired her to become active in social justice groups within the community and other national organizations. She has spent time in federal prison for her acts of non-violent civil disobedience, protesting the school that trained the soldiers responsible for the deaths of the churchwomen and many others.
Her work has also reflected this transformation, becoming more narrative and engaging the viewer to question the meaning behind the form. She has exhibited her work internationally, nationally and regionally.
