Take action to extend unemployment benefits

brandLink_4According to the National Employment Law Projectunemployment benefits are running out for an average of 7,000 workers every day.  By the end of December, 1.3 million workers will have exhausted their jobless benefits.

The Senate is expected to vote this week on the Unemployment Compensation Extension Act (H.R. 3548), and your voice is needed to help millions of Americans dealing with economic hardship.

The Senate version of this bill will extend unemployment insurance benefits to workers in all states for up to 14 weeks, with an additional six weeks of benefits for workers in states with anunemployment rate of above 8.5 percent.

The bill will also encourage states to let victims of sexual assault and domestic violence quality for unemployment benefits if they had to leave a job.
